Cubans still call him “ Papá ” and revere him for his writing, his sense of adventure, his bravado and his unconditional love for their country. He spent over ten years on the Sugar Island, inviting Fidel Castro and Che Guevara onto his yacht Pilar, which was steered until his death in 1961 by the Cuban captain Gregorio Fuentes , who was also a good friend of his. It is precisely this Gregorio who is responsible for the fact that Annette Meisl fell in love with the philosophy of life of this Caribbean country on the millennium eve of 1999. As she listened to the then 103-year-old, she discovered a lot of interesting and lovely things and suddenly felt as close to the admired author Hemingway as if he were sitting next to her on the porch of his former helmsman.
At this seminar, Annette Meisl talks about Ernest Hemingway's time in Cuba and reads some excerpts from his stories. You will also taste Hemingway's favorite cigar and various types of Cuban rum.
