Montecristo
Montecristo is the best known and probably most popular Habanos brand worldwide. It represents the standard by which many Habanos lovers judge other brands.
The name is a homage to the famous novel “The Count of Montecristo” by Alexandre Dumas. This novel was one of them torcedores very popular reading of the reader in the factory. This brand has been around since 1935.
Originally, Montecristo had a manageable portfolio of cigars numbered from No.1 to No.5. Today the wide range offers everything a cigar smoker's heart desires. In 2004, a cigar with a 52 ring gauge, called Edmundo, was introduced. This happened because aficionados increasingly demanded larger ring gauges. A shorter version of this was the Petit Edmundo two years later.
Why Edmundo? Edmundo is the first name of Edmundo Dantes, the hero from Alexandre Dumas' world-famous story.
In 2009, the new Montecristo Open line was launched with four different formats with a lighter taste than that of the classic Montecristo cigars. These cigars were able to appeal to a new generation of aficionados.
The perfectly balanced Montecristo blends consist of selected fillers and binders from the tobacco growing zone Vuelta Abajo , home of tobaccos that are among the best in the world. Both the original Montecristo cigars with their medium to strong taste and the cigars from the Montecristo Open series with their lighter taste appeal to both new and experienced smokers.
All formats are ' tripa larga, totalmente a mano' – Long fillers made entirely by hand.
