Hoyo de Monterrey
The appellation “Hoyo de Monterrey” is the name of a plantation in the town of San Luis y Martinez , located in the heart of the Vuelta Abajo tobacco growing zone. The “Hoyo de Monterrey” plantation, one of the large Vegas de Primera in the center of the city, adorns a gate with the inscription “Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1860”.
Hoyo literally means 'valley' and in this case describes the plantation's deep location on the fertile banks of the “San Juan y Martinez” river. José Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, used the name of this vega for one of his Habanos brands since 1865.
The taste of Hoyo de Monterrey has made it a popular choice for those looking for a fine but at the same time aromatic Habano, lighter in taste but with and maintaining great elegance and complexity.
All formats of the “Hoyo de Monterrey” brand are totalmente a mano, tripa larga – long fillers made entirely by hand with inserts and binders from the Vuelta Abajo .
