Cohiba is the top brand of Habanos and one of the most famous cigar brands ever.
It was created in 1966 especially for President Fidel Castro in the factory that was kept top secret at the time but is now world famous El Laguito manufactured. In addition to their own consumption by the Cuban leadership, the Cohibas were exclusively representative gifts for heads of state and diplomats.
Since 1982, “Cohiba” brand cigars have also been available in limited quantities on the open market.
Cohiba is an ancient word Taino Indians for the wraps of tobacco leaves smoked by these natives of Cuba. Columbus' report credits these wraps as the first known form of cigar.
The leaves of the Cohiba represent the “selection of the selection” from the five best vegas de primera in the areas San Juan y Martinez and San Luis the tobacco growing zone Vuelta Abajo represents.
It is unique among the Habanos that up to three of the Cohiba's insert sheets, seco, ligero and the very rare one medio tiempo , fermented an additional time in barrels. This unique process creates a special aroma and taste that can only be found in Cohibas.
There are four different ones lineas (Lines) of the Cohiba brand: the first is the Línea Clásica , whose six different formats were created between 1966 and 1989. The second, that Línea 1492 , consists of five formats that were launched in 1992 to mark the 500th anniversary of Columbus' long and adventurous voyage of discovery. Ten years later, in 2002, the Linea 1492 expanded to include another format, the Siglo VI.
The Linea Maduro 5 consists of three formats and their cigars are characterized by their very dark wrappers, which are aged for at least five years ( maduro , Spanish for ripe). This line has been around since 2007.
The last one was Linea Behike introduced as Cohiba's most exclusive line. The three formats celebrated their debut in 2010. The insert contains the very rare one medio tiempo- tobacco, the top pair of leaves found only on some of the sun-grown tobacco plants. The medium time brings an exceptionally intense and aromatic taste to the cigar.
Thanks to such innovations, the “Cohiba” brand continues to maintain its leading position among premium cigars to this day. The “Cohiba” brand was the first to release a Reserva in 2002 and then a Gran Reserva in 2009. These cigars were made from tobacco leaves that were specially aged for three or five years.
All formats from Cohiba are Totally a mano, tripa larga – Long fillers made entirely by hand.

Cohiba Maduro 5
The Cohiba Línea Maduro 5 embodies the best in the tradition of naturally fermented, dark wrappers and has complemented the Cohiba brand since 2007. The wrapper leaves of these cigars, which come from the upper part of the plants, are aged for at least five years.
They give the cigars a very special, rounded taste. The “capa madura” – the ripe, dark wrapper leaf – is very popular with a large number of cigar smokers on all continents.
Cigars from the Maduro 5 line are offered in three different formats:
The Secretos are the smallest format. With a length of 110 mm, they have an average ring gauge of 40 and offer aromatic and intense cigar enjoyment in a short time.
The Mágicos are a little longer at 115 mm, but promise a very complex smoking experience thanks to their large ring gauge of 52.
The Genios, at 140 mm the longest of the three formats, also have a 52 ring gauge and represent the crowning achievement of this series.
The ultimate Habanos is the super-premium Cohiba Behike line.
After the Línea Clásica, the Línea 1492 and the Línea Maduro 5, it is the fourth series of the famous Habanos brand Cohiba. The term “Behike” is an old term from the Taínos, the indigenous people of Cuba. As a medicine man and master of ceremonies, the Behike was the outstanding personality and spiritual leader of the tribe.
Behike consists of three formats BHK 52, BHK 54 and BHK 56, which are exclusive to this series. The numbers indicate the ring gauge of the cigar.
Although the Behikes are an integral part of the Cohiba brand, they are still only available in very limited quantities. The reason for this is the rarity of the tobacco used for this purpose. Uniquely and for the first time in the world of premium cigars, Cohiba Behike uses a fourth filler tobacco called “Medio Tiempo”. It refers to the two leaves at the top of tobacco plants grown outdoors. However, only a small proportion of the plants develop these leaves and, after careful selection and storage, only a limited amount is available for the production of the Behikes. In addition, only cover sheets of the utmost perfection are used.
When you enjoy these outstanding cigars, the effect of the Medio Tiempo is immediately apparent: it brings with it an incredible variety of aromas and a distinctive strength that is unparalleled in the world of cigars.
